I peel myself out of bed quite early on Saturday morning, very glad that I did. Local C&C had some very very choice vehicles attend, and for me to bother doing much other than posting some pictures would be silly.

For all you Porsche lovers out there, this was probably my favorite shot all day.

But there was more, and I have to separate this because it was such an incredible thing to me...

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

This 1965 Mercedes Benz 230SL Pagoda was the most interesting car at the show to me. The original owner who was friends with the current owner, passed away many years ago. The current owners bought the car from the widow in an effort to keep the car in his memory. The car is a survivor, it is 100% original from 1965. The original Owner, Ed Cook, had that little label on the bumper to make it his. The soft top is a little worse for wear, so the car wears it's hard top unless it's a good enough day to go sans-top. I told the current owners to never get rid of the car. To put a price tag on it is something I would never be able to do. It's been used, it has just over 76,000 miles on it, and was currently being driven because the owners other car was in the shop.

This is one of the few cars I would hate to see fully restored. Sure, a new soft top would be nice, but I would look to see if the current one is salvageable first. It's so rare to see these cars out, much less in un-restored condition, it's just incredible to me. Given the family connection to the car, I really do hope they keep it for as long as they can. I helped them pop the hood, and gave them pointers on ways to condition the leather, and hope they use that as an excuse to keep it for a long, long time.

The old, and the new(er).

Among other things, there was a 1913 Model T, the Lancia Stratos from the Petrolicious video, 4 GT-Rs, a handful of muscle cars, and a few other little things that either left before I could get a good picture, or were just too crowded to get close enough.

Yep. They're insanely fast, and can outrun many Porsches on some road courses. Still though, the Moose Test failures will prevent me from ever wanting to be in one.

...is that where they drive a car into a moose?

No car can save you from a moose.

That's the sad truth.

Fair enough, but my current car is probably a lot less safe than this car.

Yeah, plenty of cars are, but the problem is that these are how they come from the factory, and no effort has been made whatsoever to make any correction. As far as SUVs go, this is one of the worst ones built today.

Grand Cherokee Statement for Teknikens Varld Test

Chrysler Group engineers are investigating a Swedish magazine's evaluation of the 2012 Grand

Cherokee. During the evaluation, the publication was able to capture images of a Grand Cherokee on two wheels as it performed an extreme maneuver in an overloaded condition.

Advised of this event by the magazine, Chrysler Group engineers made numerous attempts to

reproduce the wheel-lift in a properly loaded vehicle. Extensive testing produced no such result.

A subsequent evaluation was conducted by the magazine July 8 in Sweden and witnessed by Chrysler Group engineers. Three vehicles performed 11 runs on a course prepared by the magazine. None reproduced the original event.

The uncharacteristic result was obtained using a vehicle loaded beyond its weight specifications. The Grand Cherokee's weight limitations are clearly stated on the vehicle and in the owner's manual. Also, the extreme maneuver performed by the magazine is not certified by any regulatory agency, nor is it used to establish any sanctioned safety ratings.

Chrysler Group takes seriously any safety concerns and engineers are examining the event to better understand the magazine's claims.
